John Dixon S.C., Chair

John Dixon S.C. has a particular interest in investment law. He has practiced in commercial law since the 1980’s and is often briefed by insolvency practitioners and indemnity insurers in Corporations Act based claims, audit claims, and financial product related claims. He has appeared in many public examinations. He is experienced in litigation involving “corporate divorce”, shareholder rights and director’s duties. He is interested in utilising arbitration in corporate disputes.

 

David H. Denton S.C., Deputy Chair

David H Denton, S.C. practises in the commercial and appellate divisions of the Federal Court of Australia, the State Supreme Courts in Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland, the Planning & Environment Court of Queensland and in VCAT.  He has a keen interest in arbitration and in all aspects of company law, shareholder disputes and planning matters. He is the former President of CommBar.

 

Jim Doherty, Co-Secretary

Jim Doherty has practised in financial services law since 1994.   In the financial services area he has acted for ASIC, trustees, members and investment advisers, particularly in matters involving managed investments, life insurance and superannuation.   He has also acted for companies, directors and shareholders on a range of Corporations Act matters. 

 

Jane Treleaven, Co-Secretary

Since being called to the Bar in November 2006, and while practising as a solicitor, Jane Treleaven has advised and acted for directors and companies within both the regulatory and private arenas.  In particular, she has experience in unregistered managed investment schemes, duties of directors and civil penalty proceedings
