What we do
The Commercial Bar Association of Victoria (CommBar) is an association of the Victorian Bar for barristers of all levels of seniority and experience specialising in commercial law.
All Victorian barristers are self-employed and independent. Entry into the profession of barrister is open to any and all suitably qualified persons.
Professional practice as a barrister in commercial law requires the acquisition and continuous enhancement of specialist legal knowledge, advocacy skills, strategy and tactical skills.
CommBar plays an important role in assisting its members to enhance their skills. CommBar:
- provides a forum for barristers practising in commercial law to share and enhance their knowledge and skills;
- is the largest provider of continuing legal education to the Victorian Bar;
- is a forum for review of recent developments in all areas of commercial law;
- works closely with the Victorian Bar Council, courts and government on major initiatives such as law reform and specific aspects of commercial law;
- actively liaises with the State and Federal Governments, courts, tribunals and other associations and bodies in relation to matters of importance or interest in connection with commercial law;
- provides a forum for meetings, discussion groups and the making of submissions in respect of topical matters of interest.
