About the Association
The Commercial Bar Association of Victoria (CommBar) is a specialist bar association of the Victorian Bar Inc, the professional body for barristers based in Victoria and practising in Victoria, elsewhere throughout Australia and in other parts of the world. All members of CommBar are barristers of the Victorian Bar specialising in one or more aspects of commercial law.
Commercial law covers a wide range of law relevant to commerce including corporations, securities, banking, finance, insurance, trusts, real property, intellectual property, international, sports and superannuation law, together with public and government law. CommBar currently has 15 Areas of Practice. Each Area of Practice is chaired by a member of counsel specialising in that area of practice. The Areas of Practice each provide regular content updates and news for the website and the CommBar Newsletter, and conduct other activities of interest to members interested in that area of law.
We encourage you to click on the Areas of Practice and take your time to browse the contents. You can look for information contained in the website by using the Keyword search function located at the top of the home page, or search for a member in the Meet our Members page by entering their name or simply find a barrister by reference to the Areas of Practice.
Our President’s Desk is regularly updated.
You can also find helpful case notes and other legal materials posted on the website. CommBar is happy to consider other materials of interest to our members for publication on the website. Please contact our Chief Editor.

The Executive Committee works continuously to strengthen the relationship of CommBar and its members with the Federal and State Governments and government and corporate counsel. There is a section of the website dedicated to this. We encourage you to speak to any member of the Executive Committee about the ways in which CommBar and its members could collaborate with or assist you and in developing innovative strategies to improve the service offered by our branch of the legal community to its clients.
